Cod is a premium choice, it sits relatively low on the food chain and is known for its low levels of heavy metals and PFAS.

Is it true that collagen cannot be absorbed by the body ?

Collagen is a protein. In the human digestion tract, proteins are broken down to peptides and amino acids by enzymes. That way our body can absorb and use the these nutrients. This is a naturally occurring process that happens when we eat protein. In the production of marine collagen, one of the steps is using enzymes to break down the particle size from large collagen molecule to smaller peptides. By doing this, we help the body absorb the collagen peptides fast and efficient.

What is hydrolysed collagen?

Hydrolysed collagen (also called collagen peptides) has been
enzymatically broken down into small fragments called peptides.

This process:

  • Reduces the molecular weight to around 3 kDa (kilodaltons),
  • Makes the collagen highly bioavailable, meaning it can be efficiently absorbed in the small intestine

How many KDA is Vild Nord collagen (molecule) ?

The molecular weight of collagen is crucial for how fast it is absorbed by the body. When collagen is hydrolysed, it is broken down into tiny peptides of 3 kDa (kilodaltons), which is the same as 3000 daltons.

Does Vild Nord collagen contain heavy metals and PFAS?

In Norway where the marine collagen is produced, there are threshold values for the content of three heavy metals in fish products: cadmium, mercury, and lead. As long as a product stays within the threshold values, the content of heavy metals poses no safety risk. We have chosen cod as the source for our product because it is not a large predatory fish, where heavy metals typically accumulate. 

 

All Vild Nord collagen is tested by third parties, so we always have a guarantee that the product does not exceed the legal limits.

Does Vild Nord collagens powder taste like fish?

Vild Nord Collagen is made from cod fish skin, so we understand that some customers may wonder whether it tastes or smells of fish. We have developed different formulas to make it easier to choose the option that suits your taste preferences.

Some of our products, such as Pure Marine Collagen and Collagen Gold, are made without added flavour. They have a clean and neutral profile, but as they contain natural ingredients from the sea, some people may notice a mild marine taste. This can be slightly more noticeable in Collagen Gold, which also contains wild-harvested seaweed.

If you prefer a flavoured option, Lemon Marine Collagen, Collagen Beauty Remedy or Collagen Immune Plus may be a good choice. These have a mild natural flavour from lemon or berries, making them easy to enjoy in water, smoothies or other cold drinks.
